Senate Petition

Australians for a fair Finance Industry

To the Honourable President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:

The petition of the undersigned shows:

  1. That we support rebuilding trust and confidence in the Finance Industry.
  2. That we believe removing individuals who have broken the law from the Finance Industry is part of rebuilding trust and confidence in the industry.
  3. That a fair, government regulated register of finance workers who have breached applicable laws is the only way to ensure that the right people are removed from the industry for the right reasons.
  4. That the employers who have led the breakdown in trust and confidence in the Finance Industry should not manage, own or operate any process that undermines a fair government register as it will not restore the trust and confidence the Finance Industry needs.

Your petitioners ask the Senate:

To develop or extend a current, relevant register of finance workers found guilty of breaching applicable laws. This register is to be maintained by a government regulator and principles of natural justice and procedural fairness must apply.

Any register of finance workers breaking workplace laws should be maintained by a government regulator

The Register combined with a regular Police Check for all staff of every level is a great way to ensure that the financial sector’s staff maintains a high level of integrity. However, bearing in mind the imperfections of humanity, this measure must be coupled with a strict and highly accountable process for to exercise discretion if necessary. Any punishment must not hinder one’s ability for improvement.

When will the push to squeeze more and more and more out of the working person cease! This drive is creating unethical behaviours because people are so afraid of losing their jobs, their income, their livelihood! We, the everyday worker, the everyday consumer, need to support & stand by the company and the business and the industry that values the Australian people first and foremost.

I have worked in finance/sales for several years and have experienced/ witnessed office practices/bullying/isolation of team members who are not meeting KPI targets. I have seen delegation of ‘value’ work/opportunities to high performers/ whilst indirectly segregating those not meeting targets via boards & scorecards. When will high staff turnover & recruitment be addressed to eliminate stress related work absences, recruitment costs, encourage career progression and ensure continuity of client management?
